WEMA Health is a virtual-first obesity program and healthcare provider. This means our coaching and learning modules are held through our innovative app and digital tools. We’re also delighted to offer the option of in-person care at our clinics in Denmark and the United Arab Emirates should members wish to be seen in-person.

We founded WEMA Health with a team of clinical experts and world-renowned academics, including Professor Filip Knop, Professor of Endocrinology at the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen and Dr Rita Nawar, leading endocrinologist in the UAE, to ensure our curriculum is built on and backed by the latest medical science and knowledge. They continue to be integral members of the WEMA Health team to ensure the best development in our program and are the reason your weight loss will be not only successful, but also sustainable.

If you have a body mass index (BMI) of ≥ 30, then you will be eligible to join the WEMA Health program, depending on any other health conditions you may have. However, if you have elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis in the knees or hips (determined by an x-ray), or cardiovascular disease, then a lower BMI of ≥ 27 is required.

Our medical care team is supervised by Filip Knop, our Academic Supervisor and Professor of Endocrinology at the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. In the UAE, we also have Dr. Rita Nawar, one of the region’s leading endocrinologists specializing in obesity management.

Certifications and licenses are country-specific, but rest assured they are at the top of their field and we onboard our coaches to make sure they’re aligned with the WEMA Health values. As a WEMA member, you’ll be paired with, and supported by, coaches to help you sustain your weight loss.

You can contact your coach and doctor through the WEMA Health members-only app. Interact via text, video message and use the app to book a live appointment or consultation when needed.

Obesity is a chronic condition, which requires chronic treatment to keep a steady weight. This includes lifestyle changes, but probably also treatment with modern weight loss medication. Currently, there is evidence that the most effective GLP-1 based treatment for weight management have durable effects on weight loss for at least 2 years if you are treated continuously. Studies also show, that if you suddenly stop your GLP-1 based treatment, the majority will regain some or most of their lost weight. There are no studies available investigating if you can avoid regaining weight after you stop treatment, i.e., with slow withdrawal or short pauses in treatment, before discontinuing. At WEMA Health, we are always fully up to date when it comes to the most effective medication for weight loss and the best measures for lifestyle changes. Also, we are always on the look for new studies and evidence on how to handle your medication over time, and any potential ways to discontinue treatment with limited impact on your weight. If you should decide to stop your medication at some point, we are always ready to have a talk and find the best solutions for you on your continued weight loss journey. We are with you for the long run!
